The Nesting Co. app requests certain device permissions to provide you with the best experience. We believe in transparency — below is a complete list of every permission the app may request, why it's needed, and whether it's required or optional.
Important: You are always in control. Optional permissions can be denied without affecting core app functionality. You can change permission settings at any time in your device's Settings app.
Device Permissions
Camera Optional
Used to scan product barcodes for your nesting checklist and to take photos for your profile or journal entries. The camera is only activated when you explicitly use a camera feature.
Data handling: Photos are stored locally on your device or uploaded to your account if you choose to save them. We do not access your camera in the background.
Photo Library Optional
Allows you to select existing photos from your device for profile pictures, journal entries, or product images. We only access photos you explicitly select.
Notifications Optional
Enables push notifications for medication reminders, appointment alerts, weekly pregnancy updates, and community activity. You can customize which notifications you receive in the app settings.
Data handling: Notification tokens are stored securely and used only to deliver the notifications you've opted into.
Location Optional
Used in the Care Finder to locate nearby OB-GYNs, midwives, doulas, and pregnancy resource centers. Location data is only accessed when you actively use the provider search feature.
Data handling: Your location is used in real-time to find nearby providers and is not stored on our servers or shared with third parties.
Health Data (HealthKit / Oura Ring) Optional
If you choose to connect a wearable device (such as Oura Ring), we may access sleep, activity, and readiness data to provide personalized fertility and wellness insights. This data is accessed only with your explicit authorization.
Data handling: Health data is processed securely and is never sold or shared with advertisers. You can disconnect your wearable at any time.
Internet Access Required
Required to sync your data, load content, access the community forum, and communicate with our servers. Some features are available offline with cached data.
How to Manage Permissions
On iPhone (iOS)
- Go to Settings → scroll down to Nesting Co.
- Toggle individual permissions on or off
- For notifications: Settings → Notifications → Nesting Co.
On Android
- Go to Settings → Apps → Nesting Co. → Permissions
- Toggle individual permissions on or off
Data Minimization
We follow the principle of data minimization — we only request permissions that are directly necessary for specific features you choose to use. We never access sensors, contacts, or other device data beyond what is described on this page.
