Nesting Co. is committed to making our app accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. We strive to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and Apple's accessibility best practices to ensure an inclusive experience for every parent and parent-to-be.
Accessibility Features
VoiceOver Supported
Nesting Co. is built with React Native, which provides built-in support for Apple's VoiceOver screen reader. Interactive elements such as buttons, links, and form fields are accessible to VoiceOver users. We are continuously working to improve accessibility labels and hints throughout the app for a better VoiceOver experience.
Voice Control Supported
The app's standard interface elements are compatible with iOS Voice Control, allowing users to navigate and interact with the app using voice commands. All interactive controls are labeled to support voice-driven navigation.
Larger Text Partial Support
The app uses clear, readable typography with a minimum body text size of 14pt. While the app currently uses fixed font sizes, text is designed to be legible across all supported devices. We are exploring support for iOS Dynamic Type to allow text to scale with system-level font size preferences.
Dark Interface Planned
Nesting Co. currently features a light color theme optimized for readability. A dark mode option is on our development roadmap to reduce eye strain in low-light environments and support users who prefer or require a darker interface.
Differentiate Without Color Alone Supported
We use text labels, icons, and shapes in addition to color to convey information throughout the app. Interactive elements include clear text labels alongside any color indicators, ensuring that users who cannot distinguish colors can still fully use all features.
Sufficient Contrast Supported
Primary text and interactive elements are designed to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast ratio requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text). We use a high-contrast color palette with dark text on light backgrounds to ensure readability for users with low vision or color vision differences.
Reduced Motion Partial Support
The app uses minimal, subtle animations that do not affect usability. We are working on detecting the system-level "Reduce Motion" setting to provide a fully static experience for users who are sensitive to motion or animation.
Captions Not Applicable
Nesting Co. does not currently include video or audio content. If media content is added in the future, we will include captions and transcripts to ensure all users can access the information.
Audio Descriptions Not Applicable
As the app is primarily text and image-based, audio descriptions are not currently required. All images include descriptive labels for screen reader users. Should video or audio content be introduced, audio descriptions will be provided.
Additional Accessibility Practices
- Touch targets for buttons and interactive elements meet the minimum recommended size of 44x44 points
- Form fields include clear labels and placeholder text for guidance
- Error messages are presented clearly with descriptive text
- Navigation follows a logical, consistent structure throughout the app
- Content is organized with clear headings and visual hierarchy
